Our hotel is really the place to stay in Lateh. Situated right on the nice sandy beach, the seaside cottages were available for $40 for our family of 4, including breakfast. For wendy’s single it was $35. There are at least 3 other places on the beach, plus indah-something up on the hill above the beach, which looks like its full of ghosts. The places down by the beach have fishing canoes tied up en-mass. This was an arrangement by the hotels to keep the locals happy. The place up on the hill doesn’t allow the locals to tie up on its beach, with the result that 20 local kids will occasionally storm the pool while it is filled with guests. The story from our driver is that the hotel started out really nice, then it changed owners and the salaries were too low, despite charging $200/night. The hotel workers that came from the other hotels all returned to their previous employers, and the place has deteriorated ever since. A pity, its got a fine location and from the beach the stairs have a sweet Mayan thing going on. Right now the pool has got a little algae problem, nothing terminal, I’d swim in it, but it ain’t a $200/night pool. Posted by Picasa
